We’ve recently introduced Microneedling and PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) at RiverwalkMD using the SkinPen. Many have asked about the treatment so we wanted to share more information about how it can be used to soften fine lines and stimulate collagen production.

Q: What is microneedling? And who at RiverwalkMD offers it?

A: Microneedling is a cosmetic treatment that involves using a device with small, fine needles to create tiny punctures in the skin. This process stimulates the body's natural healing response, leading to increased collagen and elastin production and improved skin texture. Any of our providers can offer the treatment! Our nurse Kellie is available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and our nurse Dianna is available on Monday & Friday for booking

Q: What is PRP?

A: PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a substance derived from a person's own blood. It is rich in growth factors and other beneficial proteins that can stimulate healing and tissue regeneration.

Q: What is microneedling with PRP?

A: Microneedling with PRP combines the benefits of microneedling and PRP. After microneedling, PRP is applied topically to the skin or injected into the treatment area to further enhance the healing and regenerative effects of the procedure. For this procedure we use the SkinPen.

Q: What are the benefits of microneedling with PRP?

A: Microneedling with PRP can improve skin texture and tone, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and even out skin pigmentation. It can also help with acne scarring and other types of scars. The treatment is generally safe and effective when performed by a qualified provider. There are some side effects that may occur, such as redness, swelling, and bruising, but these are usually mild and temporary and many feel fine to go back to work or carry on with their day after the treatment.

Q: How many treatments are needed?

A: It varies! The number can vary depending on the individual, their intended goals, and the severity of the skin condition being treated. Typically, multiple treatments are recommended, spaced several weeks apart, to achieve optimal results - we recommend about 3 for some patients.

Q: Is there any downtime after microneedling with PRP?

A: For most people no. There might be some mild redness and swelling immediately following procedure, but it usually resolves within a few hours to a few days. Most people return to their normal activities right away.

Q: Who is a good candidate for microneedling with PRP?

A: Microneedling with PRP is generally safe and effective for most people. However, it may not be suitable for individuals with certain medical conditions or skin types. It's important to consult with a qualified healthcare provider to determine if the treatment is right for you. You can always ask for a consult before any procedure, and we are always here to help answer any questions.
